A couple years ago, I read the book Our Band Could Be Your Life by Michael Azzerrad. I was blown away by all the stories of people who created their own scenes. Who ended up with something where once there was nothing. Whether it was starting a fanzine, booking an all-ages show at a K of C hall, or forming a band and driving across the country in a van, these were all inspiring tales of people doing it themselves. Not waiting around for anybody to tell them it’s okay or to set something up for them. Do it yourself.

That was our attitude three and a half years ago when we started Glorious Noise. It was a place where my friends and I could rant about music, the music industry, and how this stuff affects us all. It’s been fun. Along the way, we’ve occasionally ruffled some feathers of fans who don’t appreciate us ripping on their favorite band. We’ve received comments like, “Let’s see you make something better,” and, “Where’s your record?”

Well, we’re finally putting our money where our mouths have always been.

And we’re starting a record label.

Glorious Noise Records will be a small, broke, independent label for the foreseeable future. But we’re going to do what we have to do to release albums by bands we love. The first one will be Quasar Wut-Wut‘s Taro Sound and it’s coming out in October. We’re hoping to release an album from Riviera sometime after that.

As an introduction to the label, we’re throwing a party at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago on Saturday, August 28. The two bands on our roster will perform in addition to the almighty Two Cow Garage. We’ll be giving away free cd singles as a preview of Taro Sound, so get there early to make sure you get one. The last GLONO party was packed and we had a hell of a good time. So come on out and get some free crap from Glorious Noise.

We work day jobs so we can afford to buy music (when we’re not downloading the free stuff). To afford to go to clubs. To attend concerts. And when the music sucks, we’re not happy. We’re pissed. Like you.

Glorious Noise Records is an outgrowth of a music website we’ve been running (cleverly called “Glorious Noise”). There’s plenty of music that we like—[fill in whatever]—but there’s not enough. And we know of bands that deserve a wider audience. So we decided to do something about it. Voila: Glorious Noise Records. (OK. It’s not so much abracadabra but a lot of scut work. But we think it’s worth it.)

Maybe you’ll not like what Glorious Noise Records produces. We’re not for everyone. Maybe you’ll find it to be more than satisfying—maybe life-changing.
