This song is going to make The Postal Service huge. Mark my words.
heard it once . loved it . postal service is totally boss . duh . <333
absolutly amazing song, the postal service do it justice, only problem is I apparently cannot listen to anything other than this song on repeat.. hopefully that will be fixed in time
where can i find an mp3 of this?
Postal Service kicks ass… so glad to hear something new!
Who is this Postal Service? Are they a Phil Collins cover band?
I’m so glad I found this video :) Ben Gibbard always amazes me.
How emo am I to cry while watching this? GUH
But it’s lovely. I love Postal Service and think Ben Gibbard’s generally all around amazing, but they’ve totally outdone themselves. Absolutely gorgeous.
hay mariah carey covered this song as well.
no seriously, someone send me a link to this song or just email it. i can’t watch the video with my damn dial-up. must…hear… oh, and check out http://www.zeromag.com on sept. 8th for a cover story i did on PS if you want to hear all the latest…
Wow! I totally had no idea “Against All Odds” is a breakup song…well, I never really listened to it, since Phil Collins totally blows, but I completely love the Postal’s version.
woa, normally any cover song i hear, i hate… but this song is amazing, the first time i heard it i almost cried, sorry, being emo is my job .. anyways, the Postal Service is mad great. Word Of Advice: dont go mainstream.. mainstream blows..
whoa, the postal service is soooo awesome! if you can make phil colins sound good…you know. i hope they dont get big though….one word: Dashboard (ok one more: Confessional)
Totally amazin- i cant get this song out of my head, this version is heaps better than the original and i luv the video!!! the postal service rocks! xxx
I must say that although i dont think this song is as good as the original(I did just see Phil Collins in concert) it is probably one of the best covers around these days. its nice to hear a cover that isnt an exact copy of the original like 311 did to the cure.
I hate to say it, but I’m kinda torn on this song. I love the fact that the postal service is putting new music out that it is completely badass. However, I am one of those “MY music, Not MTV’s” indie kids, and I know this video will be constantly overplayed on MTV. (it being a cover, movie soundtrack song.) Everyone be prepared for the postal service to become public domain. Middle school pop culture. Sad but true. Other than that, Ben Gibbard is a musical phenomenon
That’s just what happens when a good band becomes too good to stay underground. As long as the band in question doesn’t stray from their original purpose (the music) so to speak, I don’t mind if MTV plays them. It’s refreshing for MTV to actually play music anymore.
Anyways, if you want to get off the mainstream, listen to classical music. Nobody is emo enough for Mozart.
Good thing I’m an Abercrombie wearing prep…or does that ruin this band already? Just something to think about.
oh man… i HEART the postal service.. and i HEART this song..
i love PS, have ben a fan. but this is by far their best songs. Wicker Park is my fave now, maybe it’s just because of Josh Hartnett. there couldn’t have been a better song to match this movie.
I just discovered PS this week. This song is going to blow up. I can’t get enough and wish them the best o’ luck.
I hope it is never played on the radio. The radio is great at ruining great songs.
Josiah, do you think the radio really ruins songs? If the song is great, the radio shouldn’t have any effect on it. Songs get overplayed on the radio, but the solution to that is simple: don’t listen to the radio.
Don’t let the Corporate Machine determine what you think is good or not good!
WFNX here in Boston is playing this song and has been playing The Postal Service for some time. I am so pissed I missed their tour last year! Maybe when Ben finishes the Death Cab tour they’ll head out again. This song F’in rules!
the postal service has been one of my favorite bands since their first cd and im glad they finally made a video but i wish it wouldve been of “such great heights”

if youre such a big fan you would have probably known that there is a video for “such great heights”. i think that the postal service has sold out a bit. last time i checked they were going to put out new music because death cab wasdoing well, but since mtv has started using such great heights in promos for good, non-staged reality t.v. shows (Laguna Beach) now all the 12 year old girls of the world can hear them and they can cash in!
*werent going to
I didn’t want to believe it at first…
I was hoping for a little more out of this, but I love it anyway.
It’s really bad. What happened?
I hope they are known for more than this though – come on – Brand New Colony is just as much, if not more, kickass.
i dont know, right now I am so happy because I finally found the title to their song “such great heights.” and i first heard this song on the preview for laguna beach, and i’ve been trying to find out the name for about a week! my point is, the fact their music is played on mtv or the radio, should not ruin their music to their fans, but help to spread the good music to other people; making it a positiv thing.

hello pple!! i got to tell you that the power of this band*s music reaches even to PERU,im a fan since i heard*such great heights*this cover of phil is excellente too!!greetings from peru.take care
the postal service at its best. PLEASE DONT GET POPULAR! coughDASHBOARDcough
This song is awesome. I love the postal service. <3<3
I absolutely love ben gibbard and see him in concert every chance i get (lucky for me he’s a local). i heard this song and absolutely loved it, especially the end of it. there’s something so beautiful about the lyrics and the melody and ben’s voice that makes it hard to not like this song. plus i have to add that death cab and ps both have been around a few years and i doubt ben gibbard will EVER “sell out.” look at any of his original songs and you’ll all see how talented he is.
I love Gibbard, Postal Service, All-Time Quarterback, DCFC, etc., but all you little emo kids have to get some meds for that depression. The REAL sad thing is that you dwell in this (don’t fool yourself, you are not feeling empathy for Death Cab, Dashboard, whomever)…sorry, I just stumbled on this site looking for the new PS song and read a few of your comments…no offense…
not so fast, christy:

maybe i worded what i said wrong. i meant that even if death cab or ps becomes popular, i don’t think either one’s music will lose any of what makes it good now. and anyway mtv already plays both bands a lot, and they still make good music. unlike dashboard. it’s the people that only like a band while it’s underground and hate them when they make it big that make me mad. they’re not real fans. they just like to be ‘edgy.’
Yeah. I hate that they use TPS songs to advertise on MTV. It really pisses me of. Especially, that Laguna Beach garbage. Stupid rich California kids, idiotic show, killing a great song.
But, they have to eat, right?
Huff. Ben Gibbard is teh r0x.
the postal service is amazing. im surprised more people dont know about it
totally love ps- but not luvin’ this remake.
get PS’s “dream of evan and chan” if you haven’t already. it’s a song from before their first album (on the “DNTL” album), and as good as any of their other songs.
J’ai connu Postal Service à cause d’une amie et depuis c’est la folie totale. Thanks to PS for making my life better.
I love your accent Stef. Say, what are you doing after?
i loveeee this video and song.
I have to say that I liked it but didn’t love it. Against All Odds is prolly my all time favorite song and I liked Mariah carrey’s version more. She is my age and growing up the song came out in a very important time of my life. Phil Collins kicks ass – the song is so passionate and meaningful that it should not be just another mtv video

I agree w/ Phil’s fan Mike. Mariah Carey’s version of “Against All Odds” is the best one yet. I like Postal Services version b/c it’s different..it has edge, spunk..it’s just friggin’ awesom.
Did someone honestly ask who the Postal Service are? They are the best band of all time. I cannot wait for their new CD to come out.

This is not a ‘song from before their first album’. this is a song that the band Dntel came up with and asked Ben Gibbard to sing in with Dntel’s lead singer Jimmy Tamborello. This is how the Jimmy and Ben met, and then they formed The Postal Service and asked Jenny Lewis to join. That song was a Dntel song that Ben Gibbard just happened to sing on. It had nothing to do with The Postal Service because they hadnt formed yet. This a Dntel song, NOT a Postal Service song
Hahaha, I found the mp3, but the site won’t let me post it, so email me at [email protected] if you want it *shrug* sorry ’bout that. :)

ben gibbard is like wine, he simply gets better with age. love the guitar harmony! shame the video has such a heavy film tide-in. the ‘eternal sunshine of the spotless mind’ idea of objects disappear/erasing/fading from memory is an elegant solution, but a shame that it is not pushed or developed further.
Brandong,
I got your back.
Anyone who’s really into the Postal Service should check out Dntel’s “Life is Full of Possibilties.” It’s amazing. “This is the Dream of Evan and Chan,” the Ben Gibbard cut, is a good one, but there are many others as well.
the postal service is the best! they did awesome on covering phill collins’ ‘against all odds’… guys gotta get their cds.. trust me.. the postal service are the greatest!!!!! and so is death cab for cutie and dntel…
