The Strokes are currently recording their third album, and they’re working with a new producer: David Kahne. Kahne is the guy at Warner Music who told Wilco that Yankee Hotel Foxtrot would kill their career and refused to release it. Strokes manager, Ryan Gentles is “confident that [the Strokes album] will come out sometime this year.”

things have been quiet for THE STROKES, but it’s starting to get busy again…here’s some news.

The 5 members of the THE STROKES have been in their recording studio here in NYC making the third album. They’re about 5 songs into it right now, and they’re working with a new producer…. DAVID KAHNE. No word on when they’ll be finished, it will take as long as it takes, but we’re confident that it will come out sometime this year.

the main point of this e-mail blast is to fill you guys in on something new that we’re going to try, regarding fan club mail outs… as many of you may know, we have closed down the official fan club, ALONE, TOGETHER.
we’re going to try and make a FREE mailing list, by using sponsors to help pay for the costs involved in manufacturing and shipping the newsletters to your homes….
however, as it stands right now, we can only make this available to residents of the U.S. for the time being. the band understands how upsetting this will be to our fans living outside of the U.S. and we’re trying to come up with ways to make it available globally….but right now, it just isn’t possible financially. the costs to ship and manufacture newsletters for fans from all around the world would far exceed any revenue we could get from sponsors….and the point of the mailing list is to be FREE! so we don’t want to ask for any money from any fans to join….

we plan on sending out quarterly newsletters and other “bonuses” that should make it a very beneficial and worthwhile group to be a part of for any fan of the strokes…
in the meantime, we’ll try to figure out some way to extend this to our friends in europe, japan, canada, mexico, south america australia, new zealand and everywhere else in the world….. it’s possible that for overseas, we may need to charge a very small fee, but we’re just not sure yet…. please forgive us and be patient!!
i’ll be sending out e-mail blasts like this more frequently when the band is active again, so that any fans overseas won’t miss out on the actual news that’s in the mailers we send to homes….
that’s about it for now… the band sends their love and appreciation from the studio!!! there will be a LOT more touring on this next album than on ROOM ON FIRE, so we’ll be seeing you all later this year….and we’ll be sure to get to a lot of countries/cities/places that we haven’t been to before or that we haven’t been to since IS THIS IT touring….

Ten bucks says they drop Kahne before the sessions are finished. Or better put, I’ll pay them ten bucks to drop David from the sessions. David is an alright producer; a bit cold for my liking and for the sound that The Strokes have been known for. But hey, if they want to reprise The Mooney Suzuki’s gloss via a mainstream producer, then expect even worse record sales than “Room On Fire.” Ain’t no amount of touring gonna change that either. Just look at what a swell job Kahne did for Fishbone. They’re household names now, right? Way to get in deeper debt with RCA, fellas. Brilliant.
Yeah – They’re gonna pull another “Nigel.” I know they will. The formula is already locked in. Raphael has nothing to worry about (especially if their guru has anything to say about it)Anyway.. back to Worlds Apart… bwahaha…
I thought Room on Fire was excellent with a couple of outright gems on it. Plus they really improved live, and they seem to have become more proficient with their instruments. They can even do covers now! I’ve got high hopes form this next one. However, even tho I thought I was enjoying the Mooney Suzuki’s last album, it turns out I wasn’t. It was just a big suckfest and the Strokes better not follow in their footsteps. It sounds like a couple of the boys are getting married which might hasten their crapulation.
Okay it’s fair game to say that Room On Fire wasn’t stellar. It paled in comparison to Is This It ? Alright now that that’s been said…how about we give the guys an oppurtunity to show us what they’re made of on this 3rd cd ! Don’t count them out too quickly ! yeah this 3rd one is do or die…but I think they’ll pull through !
I’ve seen other reports that indicate Raphael will still be on working on it as a “co-producer.”
Interesting development, though, and it’s clearly a response to the relative lack of sales for the second disc. If they want gloss up their sound, I’d nominate Mike Chapman, the man behind the boards for Blondie albums # 3, 4, 5, and 6. The Strokes are obviously big fans…
