If you don’t got Mojo Nixon…

Mojo Nixon…then your record collection could use some fixin’.

Especially since right now, you can download his entire catalog for free from Amazon MP3. But don’t wait, because this is only a three-week deal and after that, it’s over. Well, not totally over. The full Mojo Nixon catalog will be half-price after that. If my math is correct, I think you have until October 27 before they start charging you.

Nixon’s got a new album, Whiskey Rebellion, a collection of previously unreleased material, and this is a very cool way to promote it.

“Can’t wait for Washington to fix the economy,” Mojo Nixon stated. “We must take bold action now. If I make the new album free and my entire catalog free it will stimulate the economy. It might even over-stimulate the economy. History has shown than when people listen to my music, money tends to flow to bartenders, race tracks, late night greasy spoons, bail bondsman, go kart tracks, tractor pulls, football games, peep shows and several black market vices. My music causes itches that it usually takes some money to scratch.”

“Elvis is Everywhere.” “Don Henley Must Die.” “Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant With My Two Headed Love Child.” “Stuffin’ Martha’s Muffin.” These are songs that everybody needs to listen to regularly. Free!

THE ORCHARD ANNOUNCES UNRELEASED MOJO NIXON MUSIC AND FULL CATALOG, AVAILABLE FOR FREE, EXCLUSIVELY ON AMAZON

Secret stash of Notorious gonzo rocker’s to BE released DIGITALLY TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY

New York, October 06, 2009 Today, The Orchard (NASDAQ: ORCD) announced that retired recording artist Mojo Nixon will release a new album, Whiskey Rebellion, on October 7th, available exclusively on Amazon MP3, at no cost. The album, with seventeen never-before released tracks, along with the full Mojo Nixon catalog, will be available for free download for the first three weeks of its release date at the online retailer. Following the three week promotion on Amazon, the full catalog will be available for half of its normal price.

“We strive to support artistic vision,” commented Brad Navin, Executive Vice President of The Orchard. “When an artist calls you up to tell you they are coming out of retirement and that the entire plan is a two-show tour and to give away the entire catalog for free it would usually make you to think twice. However, after twelve years of working with Mojo, I’ve learned not to doubt his hillbilly genius,” Navin added.

The Whiskey Rebellion collection is a variety of songs left off of previous albums, songs from movie soundtracks and television shows, sports themes, alternative versions of previously released songs, and demos. “I had lost my secret stash,” says Nixon. “I had hid it from myself and did such a good job I couldn’t remember where. While rooting around under the front porch I found an old shoe box full of cassette tapes strays- lost dogs -homeless songs in need of a title…” “All of these songs only existed on cassette tapes,” says Nixon. “Songs from various cockamamie schemes dating from 1983 to 2007. Some solo, some with The Toadliquors, and some I don’t even remember when, where, or with whom they were recorded.”

The songs from Whiskey Rebellion range from songs about Dr. Laura and songs about asparagus to songs about Kinky Friedman and the theme song Mojo wrote for the 1998 US Olympic Luge Team. The other songs available for free download at Amazon include Mojo’s signature tunes Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant With My Two Headed Luv Child, Don Henley Must Die, I Hate Banks, I Saw Jesus At McDonalds At Midnight, Burn Down The Malls, Bring Me The Head Of David Geffen, You Can’t Kill Me, the huge crowd pleasing favorite Tie My Pecker To My Leg and his acclaimed 1987 hit Elvis Is Everywhere.

“It has been concluded by a team of top economists for each of my albums downloaded free, nearly $100 will flow into the underbelly, grass roots, dive bar economy,” states Nixon. “Mojo Nixon overstimulus sensation sweeping the nation.”

“Act now! Limited time offer! Ain’t gonna be free forever!”

  1. AWESOME!! I have almost all of Mr. Nixon’s CDs, and this is a cool way to fill in the gaps. I actually saw him in concert at Lounge Ax, touring behind “Real Sock Ray Blue”. He actually looked trim and fit; he’s sort of let himself go. The show kicked ass, though. When I got his autograph, he was a hell of a guy.

  2. This is one the coolest things ever done with the internet.

Mojo Nixon – surely, he is the Son of God.

  3. I just listened to Whiskey Rebellion. Found it “under the porch?” Whoa. Could this be the hillbilly equivalent of The Q Document?

  4. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORCHARD ARTIST MOJO NIXON SURPASSES ONE MILLION FREE DOWNLOADS ON AMAZON MP3

New Album and Entire Past Catalog Were Made Available for Free Download During Special Two-Week Promotion; Promotion Showcases The Orchard’s Position as an Innovator In the Music Space

New York, NY – October 27, 2009: On October 6th, in support and celebration of the release of Mojo Nixon’s latest album “Whiskey Rebellion”, The Orchard, a full service media company specializing in the distribution of music and video entertainment, announced that Mojo’s entire catalog would be available to download at no cost, exclusively from Amazon MP3. Since this announcement, the promotion has led to more than one million downloads of Mojo’s music. As an innovative promotional tool to expose new and existing Mojo fans to his vast body of work, the free downloads are available at http://www.amazon.com/mojo until October 28th.

“The successful execution of this pioneering promotion has generated tremendous awareness for Mojo,” said Brad Navin, EVP and General Manager of The Orchard. “This is a showcase of how The Orchard, as a nimble and forward-thinking company, has the ability to orchestrate trendsetting promotions for our clients. The success of this promotion will be measured by its long-term benefits, not the short-term risks, and our expectation is that it will generate sales momentum.”

Mojo Nixon’s current catalog includes 11 albums and 144 tracks. The downloads for this music during the two weeks of the Amazon promotional period amounted to a 23,000% increase from paid downloads across all digital retail networks in the United States during the first half of 2009.

BigChampagne, a technology-driven media measurement company that analyzes the trends of popular entertainment media, reported that the number of users and corresponding volume of files stayed pretty consistent overall on P2P sites during the two week Amazon promotion that began October 6th. In August and September, the average volume of files on P2P networks was 35,000 and in the first week of the promotion, there was 13% increase on the networks, but this fell back down to around 35,000 the following week.

“The success of this promotion is demonstrated by the numbers,” commented Eric Garland, CEO of BigChampagne. “As a result of the giveaway, Mojo’s online popularity is spiking across key indicators. It’s also worth noting that there has been no concurrent increase in piracy of Mojo’s material. Free Amazon MP3 downloads now completely dwarf the unauthorized flow of his catalog.”

Mojo Nixon, remarking on his career and lack of digital marketing skills, said:

“Great googley moogley. I’m almost speechless. A million Mojo songs stirring up trouble across this great land. I’m a cult artist and apparently I’ve grown the cult and made the cult happy. A little blast of joy in these dark and desperate times. A retired lunatic with no Facebook, no Twitter, no MySpace or tour. Not even an e-mail list. Never underestimate the power of the Mojosity. The true sound of the American nutjob is forever. You can’t kill rock ‘n roll. The question is–did I lose a million dollars or gain a million fans?”
