New Weird Al – Craigslist

Video: ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic – “Craigslist”

“I thought it would be anachronistically weird to have me as Jim Morrison screaming about Craigslist,” Yankovic told Spinner. “That just seemed so completely wrong that I thought I had to do it.”

You have to sit through a 15-second ad before the video will play, but it’s worth it. Not sure if the Doors get songwriting credit, but musically, it’s a perfect pastiche of “Soul Kitchen” and all the Ray Manzarek cliches Al could throw in to one song. Gotta admit that the guitar tone sounds awesome, and Yankovic’s voice sounds so great he might want to consider starting a cover band: Crystal Shit. You’d be really impressed.

  1. Well, that’s another story; the important thing here is you gotta ask me how I’m gonna get down to the shore.

Also, that’s a great Weird Al song. Thanks for posting!

  2. The Doors had no bass. The gypsies had no homes. Don’t let that scare you. Let that free you. Because when yer free flyin’ with The Doors man–you don’t need no safety net!

  3. If anyone should find this funny, it’s someone who was obsessed with the Doors when they were 17. Someone like me. But it’s not. It’s not a good song either.

  4. Interesting. As a guy who’s never liked the Doors, I find it to be funnier than anything he’s done in a while. “You can have my Styrofoam peanuts” as a mantra is pretty inspired.

  5. Al is a master of the parody game. It’s why I work in different areas of comedy music. No point battling a gorilla with a toothpick. :)

I think this one is a little different than his past work because he’s doing a parody more of the Doors than of any particular song.

And I have to agree with j franky that “You can have my styrofoam peanuts” was very funny. :)

His band is incredibly talented. More than people give them credit for. Check out this Zappa-ish take on “Genius In France” http://twt.fm/162627
