Looks like the Stooges will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Iggy’s response is classic:
“We’ve been rejected seven times, and we would have set a record, I think, if it happened again,” the Stooges’ frontman tells Rolling Stone. “It started to feel like Charlie Brown and the football. I had about two hours of a strong emotional reaction after hearing the news. It felt like vindication. Then I kind of scratched my head and thought, ‘Am I still cool? Or is that over now?’ “
I’m equally excited that Abba made it too. I hope they collaborate at the ceremony.
“I didn’t think this would happen, because we were a pop band, not a rock band,” says Benny Andersson, who helped found the group in 1970. “Being a foreigner from the North Pole, this feels really good.”
In addition to those two awesome bands, the Hall will also induct Genesis, the Hollies, and Jimmy Cliff. Acts who were nominated this year, but didn’t make the cut: Kiss, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, the Chantels, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer. Bet Gene Simmons is pissed.
It’s a shame that Ron Asheton didn’t live to see it happen. Nice timing, Wenner, you prick. You gonna wait until Peter Tork dies before letting the Monkees in?

I’ll be surprised if the Monkees get in before Wenner himself kicks it. Some people say Jann is still pissed at Mickey for a missing stash of ludes gobbled up with John Lennon. But that’s all I’m saying…
Membership in R&RHOF has always been a very dubious distinction for me, for a variety of reasons. First, all reports that I’ve heard paint the actual Rock Hall to be a boring place, certainly not worthy of a musical medium that can change your life. Second, I always struggle with the fact that people are trying to legitimize something I still dig partly for its rogue charm. I mean, why enshrine something that in theory, should still be pissing off parents in suburbia all around the world? Do I really want to see an elderly Paul Westerberg slowly crabwalk his way up the dais to weep openly, wishing that Bob could be there? No, I really don’t want to see that. And do we really want to see Ian MacKaye or Henry Rollins thank the R&RHOF and actually MEAN IT? No irony, actual gratitude for the recognition. No thanks, I’d just as soon plunge this pen in my pocket into both ears than see that horrific display.
There’s nothing “Rock n Roll” about a “hall of fame.” It’s the most un-Rock thing I can think of. (insert eye-roll)
I have no problem with the RRHoF, in principle. But the capricious manner in which Wenner and co. run this little fiefdom of theirs–that actually operates independently from the physical Hall–is nothing short of disgusting.

I agree with Kiko… being from north east ohio, in canton actually, home of the football HOF. I’ve always been annoyed that the rock hall induction ceremony/concert does not take place in cleveland at the actual rock hall.
Football HOF weekend is always an exciting event here with all those old pros coming to our tiny little city. I wish the rock hall would do the same.
