A Detroit News interview with Don Was claims that the Rolling Stones‘ expanded Exile on Main Street reissue, which Was has been working on, will contain “11 bonus tracks from ’69-’71.”

yeah, Mike, I was excited too-for about 5 seconds. Then my geezer alarm went off. The only thing you need to know about this project is that Mick got someone else to dive into the dumpster to find the missing McNopoly pieces. If any of that stuff was any good, we’d have already heard it. Since we haven’t, it probably isn’t. Buying a reconstituted Exile won’t bring back my ’61 Falcon, or the feeling I got the first time a girl stuck her tongue in my ear. (For the record, it was Sheri Eckart, and yes, I came in my jeans.)
This recording doesn’t need to be remastered and cleaned up. It’s the sonic equivalent of packing your nose full of baking powder and spending the night in a whorehouse drinking rotgut whiskey. You get up the next day with a mouth that tastes like an ashtray, a head that feels like it’s made out of Vermont marble, a rash that won’t go away, and a drip that won’t stop.
If they really wanted me to buy into it, they’d dub in some scratches and pops and a healthy
dose of white noise. Then it would sound like it did when I was young-in the band room after school, wide open on one of those shitty a/v record players. I’m not buying-unless they include the postcards.
Anytime one can jump into a time machine and travel back to a space in time where the Stones were high and recording their interpitation of blues smattered with rock is fine with me. As for getting someone else to touch up your work why not Mick is not a sound engineer he is a singer…. Perhaps the real reason that you do not want to take this jorney back to “Exile ” is you are tied down with kids, car payments and a hefty morgage and you can’t fit into your Sergio Valenti jeans anymore! The opportnity to mine some gold nuggets from the Stones could not be more welcome considering the condition of the music Industry at this time. A vast barron wasteland of non productivity and blanness!

Aside from the adventurous spelling, this is your take on contemporary music? Seriously? Was “Some Girls” the last album you bought? I think the fear here is that what the 2010 Mick Jagger thinks is a good, finished Stones tune and what the 1971-72 Mick Jagger thought was a good, finished Stones tune are two vastly different things that might sound a little jarring put together on the same album: a bit slick compared to the “Exile” sound we all know and love. That said, I think we’re all pretty curious… except natedog.
