Video: Weezer – “Memories”
It’s funny to remember that Glorious Noise began before Weezer‘s green album. Back then, I had a lot of hope for their future. Like a lot of fans, I was disappointed when the follow-up to Pinkterton finally came out (Weezer vs. the Record Industry: Guess Who Won, 2001). I concluded that piece with the following:
Let’s hope this one sells millions of copies so they feel liberated enough to follow it up with a little bit of forward evolution. Is that lame of me to even think that way? Am I being suckered by a corporate marketing machine into consuming goods I don’t even enjoy? I honestly don’t know. After all, I’m just a fan.
Ah, naivete. So where does that leave us? With memories…and nostalgia. But it’s always fun to see a guy take a ball in the face. Fuck aging gracefully. Let’s bust out some rad skateboard tricks!
i think you could come up with a pretty good ‘best of’ compilation with post-pinkerton material. that and two spectacular albums is a hell of a lot better than most bands.

And I thought I was having a hard time dealing with the fact that I’m pushing 40 now! At least I’m not Rivers Cuomo. This song is pathetic. Weezer sucks. And they have for a long, long time.
Boy did I used to love Weezer. I loved the Green album and I really liked Maladroit as well. Since then, they’ve churned out a consistent pile of crap that is just awful.
I do agree with cauleyflower though that a best-of would be easy to come up with – everything up to and including Maladroit – After that whatever it was called – Beverly Hills poopfest that just really sucked more than anything has ever sucked before (props to Butthead)And the suckfest hasn’t stopped since.
i’m saying a ‘best of’ for the albums after pinkerton. so that would be from green album on. everyone should own the first two anyways. but we’d all be better off with a best of from after those two records.
every new weezer album inevitably leads me to thinking “this could be so much better if only matt sharp was still around”
usually followed by “where is matt sharp now?”
