More Weezer mp3s

Karl has posted some more Weezer mp3s on the Weezer Fanclub Online. There are six lo-fi songs from a 1998 show Weezer played as “Goat Punishment,” a Bleach-era Nirvana cover band. If you have a fast internet connection, they’re worth downloading. “Aneurysm” rocks particularly hard if you’re too lazy to get to them all. Warning … Continue reading More Weezer mp3s

King Gimp – It’s okay to laugh, he’s funny

I finally got to see HBO’s Academy Award winning documentary, King Gimp, last night. I had been wanting to see this since I nearly fell out of bed laughing when I was watching the Oscars and it won for best short documentary. If you saw it, you know what I’m talking about. When they announced … Continue reading King Gimp – It’s okay to laugh, he’s funny

Are you plugged in?

I found the best record reviews on the web. The site is called Plugged In and its mission statement is: “Helping parents and youth leaders guide teens through the world of popular youth culture.” And boy, does it ever. There are reviews of movies and television too, but the record reviews are the best. Critic … Continue reading Are you plugged in?

The Board

Well, well, well. The Board is finally seeing some action. First of all, RmpIV makes a case for contemporary soul music. What do you think of modern soul? Next, Scott C buys a used jacket and is overwhelmed by the memories that came along with it. If you haven’t checked out the Board yet, do … Continue reading The Board

Smartass Motor City Punks

Check out this letter to the editor from the July 6, 1972 issue of Rolling Stone: I can’t help but notice that nearly every time you mention Detroit, it’s some sort of put-down. I wish you wouldn’t pass judgment on an entire city. Not everyone around here holds John Sinclair as his savior, or spends … Continue reading Smartass Motor City Punks

Wilco Sighting

Wilco Sighting… By now we’ve all seen Apple’s new ad for their CD-RW-enabled iMac. “Rip. Mix. Burn.” But there’s an extended version of that ad on their website that features our very own Jeff Tweedy. How you like me now? Pretty good? The extended version also features Iggy Pop and Aimee Mann.

New Weezer album

According to Karl’s Korner, the new Weezer album will be released May 15, with the single “Hash Pipe” coming out in April. I can’t imagine MTV with all their censorship playing a song with that title. Well, at least we’re going to have one more Weezer album…

Lester Bangs reviews Bark

Just added another Lester Bangs review to the Features page. This time it’s of the Jefferson Airplane album, Bark from the November 11, 1971 issue of the Stone (which happens to also contain the first installment of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by “Raoul Duke”). The next one will be a review of Black … Continue reading Lester Bangs reviews Bark

Weezer at the Aragon

What did I expect? I had been waiting to see Weezer in concert for eight years. They’re one of my favorite bands. I think Pinkerton might be the best album of the nineties. Seriously. I didn’t get to see them on their last little tour because I had no idea it was going to sell … Continue reading Weezer at the Aragon
