Re: Johnny Cash vs Gordon Jenkins vs Little Brother Montgomery

Interesting stuff. I think the compensation to Gordon Jenkins is pretty obvious, but I struggle with the Little Brother Montgomery title-who's melody seems derivative of Jimmie Rodgers' In The Jailhouse Now.

Re: The Smiths: The Making of Meat Is Murder

Totally awesome. It's nice to see Moz in relatively good spirits and willing to engage.
Rourke and Joyce were secret weapons in that band.
They all had great hair.

Re: Albums You've Got More Than 2 Copies Of

My love of Supertramp is grounded 100% on sentimental memories of my childhood Supertramp reminds me of childhood too. One of the first summer musicals I did as a kid (Kiss Me Kate) found a bunch of the male cast obsessing over "The Logical Song," to the point where one boy printed out the entire l...

Re: Albums You've Got More Than 2 Copies Of

Remembered another one: The Stooges -Fun House Holy shit. I'm glad you provided an explanation as to why you had so many copies of WCAOD. It would have been cool if in the middle of your wall of Herb Albert, you had a lone copy of Soul Asylum's Clam Dip and Other Delights parody cover. The Beatles w...

Albums You've Got More Than 2 Copies Of

Name the records in your collection that you've purchased more than twice or have more than two copies of. For whatever reason, replacement copy, gift, different format. It's pretty telling and it shows those records of such importance to you that you've committed to taking steps to ensure it sticks...

Re: Superbowl Halftime J-Lo and Shakira

"She's about my age"
For real: this is exactly what my wife said after asking "How old is Shakira?" after watching the halftime show.
I'd put it after the Prince performance (I doubt that one will ever be topped) but it was definitely one of the best!

Re: Best of the Decade... Share yours!

What's so great about it? I love how she incorporates elements of "difficult" genres (with help from Raphael Saadiq) into a challenging and progressive pop album that takes its time to unfold. The album took me completely by surprise and I'd place it next to similarly unexpected pop/r&b records tha...

Re: Isn't it time for message boards to make a comeback?

Tell you what: it’s a great time to be a cd fan. Indeed. I'm running vinyl now over cds at about 85/15 for purchases, but there becomes a point where it's just silly *not* to consider the cd version based on price point. A good example-and one that G5AM would appreciate-is Phish's Hampton Comes Ali...
