I am a bit baffled by the current crop of vocal bands. The Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver leave me a little confused and uninterested. I have tried, but I know that I have heard it all before. Bands like Bon Iver make me wonder if Rock and Roll is dead...

And besides, anything the Cure put out post- Disintegration shouldn't count anyway. Blech. Nice post, but I think Kiss me x3 was a good album, full of swirling guitars and thumping repetative bass lines. Not much after that for sure. My favourite late period cure stuff, which isn't really late at a...

The cure were intense for a while. The debut was a surreal slab of pop punk, and then they got miserable. Faith and Pornography were massive slabs of bass driven hormones. In their time, they were fantastic. However the Smiths were so much more, They had everything. Misery, humour, politics, sex and...

So you dont like Billy Idol, John Lydon, Morrissey, Marc Almond, Elvis Costello, Thom Yorke, Mick Hucknall, Bryan Ferry, Robert Plant, Ossie Osbourne, Damon albarn, Jarvis Cocker, ....

Not all to my taste, but a huge raft of talent to dismis in one sentence.

I love Roxy Musics sophistication . The way they dressed and presented themselves. Their tight arrangements, and nobody was ever smoother than Brian Ferry. I think he is underated as a songwriter, and he wrote nearly all of their songs. I like the way the roxy albums were always stronger than his so...

Gulp...It was horrible. At first , I thought the band was ok, and the sound was crap, but after he had obliterated any love I ever had for Paris 1919, and the thumped the living hell out of Venus in furs, I realised it was true. The Band were shit, the sound was shit, and J.C was a tosser. £20 down ...

Well.I have been playing Rod Stewarts " Never a dull Moment". In his pomp, the Rod was mightier than the sword.
I have also been playing ( and distributing Elvis Presleys " The Sun Sessions", which should be in every house, andMogwais Happy songs for Happy people.

A nice cross section I feel.

John Caleat the Union Chapel...Islington London

A small contingent of hardcore mojoers are going to see the legendary John Cale at this superb Venue on Monday 14th July. Its a solo show, as far as I know, and I am hopeful of hearing the majestic glory of Hallelujah in the setting of this magnificent Church Tower.

I might even tell you how it was!
