Just picked up the seminal Cramps cd - man, does it get any better than this? How did youth culture go from this cool, fucked-up, Alex Chilton-produced psycho-billy to crap like Slipknot? Kids today, I swear.

Everyone needs to rush out and get The Cramps right now!

One last note: The best all-around Xmas cd is now officially Dean Martin's 'Making Spirits Bright', complete with an alternate version of 'Let It Snow!'. It's kooky, upbeat fun with Deano at his laid-back best. Lissen to it!

If this disc doesn't fill you with cheer, you're the fucking Grinch...

Since this a long, on-going thread, it's been like 3 months since my last reply. I still find myself listening to a lot of Strokes, White Stripes and Gorillaz, but now I'm doing the re-discovery of older stuff thing: Eels - Beautiful Freak (Suddenly I can't stop listening to this! Time to get more E...

It all makes me wonder when we can expect them to use 'Head Like A Hole' to sell insurance ('If you'd rather die than to give someone else control over your finances, you're ready for John Hancock"). They've already used Devo's 'Beautiful World' to sell detergent (I forget who it was). Of course, li...

Yeah, I totally forgot about 'Zat You'! Also 'Fairytale Of New York' - excellent song. Also, Joan Jett's cover of 'Little Drummer Boy', as well as David Bowie/Bing Crosby's stupendous cover of the same song! Man, I love Xmas! Ooh, also The Pretenders '2000 Miles'! But where's MY Lepatone Christmas c...

Hey, here's a fun li'l Xmas mix of my fave holiday tunes. For some reason, it always feels right to listen to lots of lounge/cocktail & novelty stuff during the Yuletide season: any others I'm missing? This just in: RIAA in hot water over age-warning labels. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/12/04/politics/04LYRI.html A quote from the article: "...the trade commission and Congressional leaders have complained that the music industry has not taken other steps to limit adult-themed fare aimed at children....

Well, there's no doubt our corporate taskmasters penalize us for trying to opt out of their business plans. Still, there's no way people are going to be stupid enough to subscribe to a service that so severely limits their choices. I mean, I'd even subscribe myself if for (as an example) $15 a month...

http://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/29/technology/29MUSI.html I quote: "Mr. Richards (Dave Richards, a spokesman for Real Networks) said that while consumers might be accustomed to getting music free and to being able to move it onto portable music players, they also faced problems with the free music se...
