Songs That Make You Want To Commit Murder

Post by Herb Tarlek »

I was grocery shopping yesterday when The Cars' song "Drive" came over the store P.A. Suddenly I felt an uncontrollable urge to kill somebody or myself just to make it stop. What a terrible, terrible, terrible fucking song!! It would be the first track on my "Songs That Make You Want to Commit Murder" compilation album.

I'm curious what songs - when forced upon you - make you want to commit random acts of violence against your fellow man or woman?

"The Day the Music Died" by Don McLean. I fucking hate that song.

"Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison. You can blame Oldies radio and wedding DJs for this one.

"Love Shack" by B52s. Do I need to explain?

Ouch. That's a really good song. Of course, this is coming from the Phil Collins fan, so pay me no attention.
I hear you on the grocery store music, but I'm too blinded by hatred of it to actually recall what any of those songs are. I do know that everytime I hear any random bar band do yet another cover of "Brown-Eyed Girl" I want to spill blood.
That and Jimmy Buffet songs. Sweet Jesus, that man needs to pay.

I am programmed to kill if anyone should play Phil Collins' Sussudio.

Songwriters, take note. If you're ever stumped, why not toss out some shitty gibberish? The public will gobble it up like popcorn. Same goes for fucking ABACAB.

Oh, I assure you they have. Listened to any mainstream rap music lately?

I agree. Very harsh. There are many other songs that would make me swan dive into an empty pool.

The Police - De Do Do Do, De da da Da

Hoopastank - (anything would probably do it) - The reason. I was waiting for a haircut today, and it came on. Another small part of me died.

Jet - Are you going to be my girl

Black Eyed Peas - let's get it started

Disclaimer - these songs do not reflect my tastes at all. I just can't avoid them. They come out of nowhere and aim for the nuts.

Big 10-4 on Jimmy Buffet. Even now, I feel my hand groping for a ball-peen hammer to wail on some parrotheads.

Also, that god-awful Beach Boys song...'Aruba, Bahama, come on pretty mama'. If you ever find me on the Texas tower, it'll be because of that song.

"My Sharona." Especially the extended version. It gets the dirty stick.
"What I Like About You." Any version ever made, up to and including the one that's for the new WB sitcom, in which the shitty song becomes shittier but with Jennie Garth and more "flava."
"Love Shack."
D. Phillips, a) I totally didn't see that you had picked "Love Shack" until this second but I am leaving mine and seconding it just so everyone understands how much that song needs to DIE, and b) what do we think of the Madonna version of "The Day The Music Died?"
The new Jimmy Eat World song. I believe it's called "Pain." I almost cried when I first heard it because it was so much with the shitty. I am once again going to call Tom4 for backup on this, unless, of course, you can find some redeeming qualities in it. Dude. Tom4, you're like Batman, except with Jimmy Eat World.
Oh, and "Walking On Sunshine."

ANY modern country. Does this count? If it does, it gets my vote. Especially Toby Keith. I cannot wait until his shtick is exposed... but then again, those people don't give a shit about cred or music in general.

Back story: My gf at the time was a fan of his, worked at a large bank where she was "befriended" by his financial manager, got back stage passes and went on his tour bus. Hang on - I've gotta go vomit...

(cue "Bodies" by The Sex Pistols)

"Wind Beneath Your Wings" - Bete fucking Middling
"Little Toy Drum" - Amy fucking Ugh-glue-gluck (or whatever the fuck her name is).
"bigbassbackbeatedtofuckingdeath" - MC Nameless

Today, however, I had the most enjoyable experience in a office supplies chain store in the Eaton's Centre (big mall downtown). I'm selecting my binder while Iggy Pop serenaded me with "Lust for Life" followed by Pixies "Here Comes Your Man". Apparently they're allowed to play there own CDs and some part-timer has taste. I actually thought about browsing for the rest of the afternoon. [/i]
