hey everybody - i apologize if i'm retreading old ground here. i did a search and didn't immediately see anything but was too lazy to really look around. what i'm hoping this thread will be is a place for us who aren't exactly on top of the hip hop game to get suggestions from each other of new artists to check out. i found out about solo through the "golden age" thread and thought it would be cool to have a thread devoted to turning each other on to great new things.

my contribution is a guy i ran across the other day named listener. you can find some free songs at his purevolume site (http://www.purevolume.com/listener/music), and can buy more through the iTunes music store. (click here: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... Id=3878690)

anybody else?

A lot of my lunch money has been devoted to this lately...

Things that I've totally dug:

Madvillain - Madvillainy (think De la Soul if the only newsource they had was comic books)

Mike Ladd - Welcome To The After Future (psych'd out with smart rhymes)

Jaylib - Champion Sound (part dub, part P Diddy, all funky)

Subtle - A New White (the guy from cLOUDDEAD gets all orchestrated with a live band)

Prince Po - The Slickness (old school raps with progressive production)

I second Prefuse 73. Also, Dizzee Rascal should be mentioned. And in the last thread someone mentioned Alchemist, his work with Jurassic 5 and Dilated Peoples are definitely worth checking out.

I think I'm the only one who hates Dizzee Rascal. Man, though, I hate him. His music makes think of what an epileptic seizure must feel like.

Prop, I only recently began to enjoy Dizzee. I was in your exact shoes until about 3 months ago.
