2. Coldplay "Viva La Vida"

Cume: 562,138

4. Beck "Modern Guilt"

Sales this week: 84,313

A cult favorite, the favorite icon of hipsters who are as dorky and short as he is and control what’s left of the bleeding edge in old media.

This guy’s very first track was his best.

He’s not without talent, but he’s niche at best.

This will fall right off the chart. Don’t buy the hype.

5. Kid Rock "Rock N Roll Jesus

Sales this week: 61,082
Percentage change: +35%
Cume: 1,163,889

Maybe the new Madonna, albeit with a bit more musical talent. BRILLIANT business concept. Melding "Werewolves Of London" and "Sweet Home Alabama" into a new track.

If this were a new act, there would be no end result other than these sales. But since Bob has got over a ten year career, it’s just bringing more people to the show, where more money can be made, by him, not the label.

Yes, radio still sells records.

But come on, this is lowest common denominator stuff. This proves how vapid today’s scene is, that this track can be a hit. Can you imagine this getting any traction in the heyday of rock radio? Or even the 1989 Kid Rock is singing about?

For those scoring at home, this is the single of the summer. In an era where only the young and ignorant care.

12. Katy Perry "One Of The Boys"

Sales this week: 31,971
Percentage change: -4%
Cume: 146,246

21. Duffy "Rockferry"

Sales this week: 20,947
Percentage change: -14%
Cume: 311,978

She’s kind of made it. But she’d be even bigger if more of the target audience KNEW WHO THE FUCK SHE WAS!

22. Jonas Brothers

Sales this week: 20,264
Percentage change: +20
Cume: 1,398,185

31. Mariah Carey "E=MC2"

Sales this week: 14,774
Percentage change: -8%
Cume: 1,094,281

38. Sugarland "Enjoy The Ride"

Sales this week: 12,452
Percentage change: -9%
Cume: 2,341,292

39. Vanessa Hudgens "Identified"

Sales this week: 12,272
Percentage change: -44%
Cume: 34,381

72. N.E.R.D. "Seeing Sounds"

Sales this week: 8,197
Percentage change: -20%
Cume: 135,425

73. My Morning Jacket "Evil Urges"

Sales this week: 8,010
Percentage change: -17%
Cume: 101,259

They channeled Prince FOR THIS?

Fucking idiots, they think they’re going to get Top Forty airplay? That the mainstream is going to embrace them?

Play to your core.

And MMJ’s core is rooting for them, but an incredible percentage is turned off by their musical left turn. DON’T FUCK WITH YOUR FANS!

80. Daughtry

Sales this week: 7,842
Percentage change: -7%
Cume: 4,150,186

83. Nickelback "All The Right Reasons"

Sales this week: 7,723
Percentage change: -10%
Cume: 6,844,037

123. Judas Priest "Nostradamus"

Sales this week: 5,685
Percentage change: -30%
Cume: 69,024

130. Ting Tings "We Started Nothing"

Sales this week: 5,063
Percentage change: -20%
Cume: 45,890

142. Raconteurs "Consolers Of The Lonely"

Sales this week: 4,584
Percentage change: -8%
Cume: 205,109

145. Albert Hammond, Jr. "Como Te Llama?"

Sales this week: 4,530

That’s what they’re going to be asking EVERY member of the Strokes soon…WHAT’S YOUR NAME?

155. MGMT "Oracular Spectacular"

Sales this week: 4,258
Percentage change: +2%
Cume: 113,381

If this is the impact of all that buzz, all that hipster squawk, I want no part of it…and obviously no one else does either!

Turns out people would rather listen to Coldplay. Get over it.

Where's Feed the Animals?

As much as I tried to deny the Lil' Wayne tide I once again must admit that his record is very good. I always try to resist him when he releases a new album but he always ends up convincing me. After all, how can you argue with such brilliant lyrics as "You like a bitch with no ass, you ain't got shit" or "Call me Mr. Carter or Mr. Lawn Mower." He's still horribly overrated and his name shouldn't be spoken in the same sentence as Tupac, Wu-Tang, Biggie, Public Enemy, NWA, Snoop, Mos Def, KRS One, Del, Kool Keith...the list goes on.

Yeah, I have to admit I bought into the Lil Wayne hype, hoping that it was true the next desperately needed brilliant mind in hip hop had arrived, and I was sorely, sorely, sorely disappointed by Tha Carter III.

Lyrical prowess? Try: "Look in the skies for God, all you see besides the smog is broken dreams flying away on the wings of the obscene."

"Same song, just remixed, different arrangement -- put you on a yacht but they won't call it a slaveship. Strangeness, you don't control this, you barely hold this -- screaming brand new, when they just sanitized the old shit. Suppose it's just another clever Jedi mind trick that they been running across stars through all the time with. I find it distressing, there's never no in-between -- we either niggaz or Kings, we either bitches or Queens. The deadly ritual seems immersed in the perverse -- full of short attention spans, short tempers, and short skirts. Long barrel automatics released in short bursts, the length of black life is treated with short worth.
Get yours first, them other niggaz secondary -- that type of illin that be filling up the cemetary. This life is temporary but the soul is eternal -- separate the real from the lie, let me learn you. Not strong, only aggressive, cause the power ain't directed. That's why we are subjected to the will of the oppressive. Not free, we only licensed. Not live, we just exciting. Cause the captors own the masters to what we writing. Not compassionate, only polite, we well trained. Our sincerity's rehearsed in stage, it's just a game. Not good, but well behaved cause the camera surveys most of the things that we think, do, or say. We chasin after death just to call ourselves brave but everyday, next man meet with the grave
I give a damn if any fan recall my legacy, I'm tryin to live life in the sight of God's memory like that y'all."

From someone who used to work at their label, trust me -- "you'll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

That's easy! According to USA Today, it's:
Relentless Touring. Radio Appeal. A sound for the times. Talent.
Those are possibly in actual order, with large gaps between each.

According to that link Norah Jones has sold over 10 million albums!
Holy shit! The pseudo-hipsters with the disposable cash think they're better than everybody else because they bought a Norah Jones CD.
She gets little or no radio airplay round here. Doesn't test.
