XRT played "Enola Gay" (mp3) on XRT's Local Anesthetic show on October 3! Woo hoo!

Cool...Did XRT pick that one, or did you guys suggest it?

I can't remember. I think we suggested some "choice" cuts, but I'm not sure exactly... Why do you ask?

Quasar Wut Wut has a unique, strange sound, and I imagine it can be challenging to market someone like that. I was wondering if that particular cut was their "flagship" song, if it was band or label's choice, or if it was "taster's choice" at the radio station. I noticed it's not the first track on the album, either, which is cool because that shows someone was listening.

Gotcha. It is one of the ones that we're pushing. I think it sounds more accessible than some of their other stuff. It's a nice short, fun pop song (that just so happens to contain themes of nuclear obliteration).

Yeah, it's challenging to try to figure out how to market this album. I truly believe that real music fans will love it if they gave it a chance. But how to convince people to take the time to actually sit down and listen to it is a tough thing.

As for a Quasar flagship song, I would think that would be either "Ass-Kissin' Lips" or "March of the Zug" or "Thankful Hank," but those tracks have been deemed too long or too weird for the radio (or contain the f-word).

Any ideas of how to break this album through to a larger audience will be welcomed and discussed over PBR and Schlitz at the Long Room on Tuesdays...

I also think "Oh My Dear" is a good door opener for folks. It has a great melody. I love that track.

actually, i would have to say it was the dj's choice, which is outstanding. it does show that someone at xrt gave the album a good listen to. we did suggest a list of "go to" songs to highlight the variety on the album, also to highlight different sounds that could fit into different radio formats. though "enola gay" is a favorite of the band (they actually suggested it as one of the strongest songs on the album) and all at glono (we actually picked stilletto as most representative), the intro is a little harsh for radio (unless it's a spotlight selection). generally the dj would have bleed from one song to the next or voice over at the intro or outro to songs, but it really comes down to the dj's individual style. it's both curious and wonderful that it was picked as a highlight of the album, because it goes against all practical rules that we took into consideration when putting together the "go to" list. the only song on the album that contains blue material is "march of the zug", which is a shame, because it's such a great tune.

Well, if you've heard the material at least 100 times it's almost a truism that it becomes nearly impossible to judge how it will be received by the public. Overthinking is the rule. I can only imagine the discussions! (Luckily, in the post-Spinal Tap world, such discussions last 1/3 as long as they did in the pre-Spinal Tap world).

Or maybe you didn't, I don't know!
