first of all, thanks for being so welcoming to us doddering old mojo fuckers. last night was a great laugh and i shall certainly be popping in from now on (stop groaning at the back, there).

this is obviously a pretty american forum at the moment (the mojo one id largely british but with many americans, aussies, etc) so it got me wondering about what british music you lot like (and, indeed, what british music you fucking hate).

any thoughts?

I like the Libertines, Spiritualized, (can I include Scotland and Ireland? I can? Great) Ash, Teenage Fanclub, Reindeer Section, Supergrass, Radiohead, Mojave 3, Neil Halstead by his lonesome, My Bloody Valentine (please come back) ummmmmm, lots more and TONS of older stuff. I could list that too, but I'd be tempted to go on for entirely too long. And The Jam are in my top ten favorite musical entities of all time.

The Jam should be in EVERYBODY'S top ten favorite musical entities of all time. IMO, obviously.

I agree, but you'd be hard-pressed to find 20 American who know who they are.... unless they saw Billy Elliot.

I never saw Billy Elliot - what track(s) did they use?

Great song, but generally unrepresentative of them I would say.

Yeah, and a pretty goddamn obvious choice. I would've been more impressed if they'd used "Precious" or "Beat Surrender," but I'm pretty sure the production team didn't go in thinking they needed to impress me... the fools.

I do think it's a great song. I know I didn't sound like it, but I love it. "Ghosts" also... they really trump the rest of that album.
