Remember back in 1994 when the Meat Puppets got famous for a minute? “Backwater” even reached #47 on Billboard‘s “Hot 100” chart. Crazy days. This new song sounds somewhere between that era and the more psychedelic cowpunk of their early stuff that Kurt Cobain loved enough to cover. Good to have them back.
Meat Puppets drummer Derrick Bostrom is offering a free download of the instrumental rough mixes from the Meat Puppets II sessions: “Stripped of their out-of-control vocals, the tracks themselves reveal a great deal of craft. The arrangements are detailed, the tempos are controlled and we’re actually listening to each other.”
