  1. Hmm. I think we should take away monopolies from every radio station owner that refuses to play any music I like for any reason.

The Dixie Chicks have the right to free expression, why is everyone freaking out when radio stations, concert-goers, and album buyers exercise the same right? It’s not like the government is censoring them.

Just think of all the punk bands from the 70s and 80s that had controversial views and never got radio play. I guess we can take the man to court now?

  2. You don’t find it the least bit chilling that expressing an opinion can deprive you of your livelihood? Don’t vast corporate entities have enough power as it is? These things tend to have a trickle-down way of filtering through society. If a huge corporation can do this now, maybe your employer will be able to do it next year.

Of course, as long as you voice popular opinions you have nothing to worry about.

  3. To say the Dixie Chicks have lost their livelihood through their political views is a wee bit overblown. Their concerts have still been sold out and their record sales have not dropped much. The reason radio stations dropped them from playlists is because the people that listen to those stations called in and requested it. I’m sure Clear Channel would have rather kept the Dixie Chicks on the playlist after all of the money that has been put into marketing for them. But like any business, they had to listen to the public.

Isn’t it strange that the only people complaining about this are people that never listen to country radio?

What? Corporate censorship is OK? Especially when it’s coming from a corporation with such close ties to the Bush administration and also one that stands to make Billions if a certain FCC policy change due to be announced in two weeks goes their way?

American idoltry of big business is bizarre and damaging to our culture and sense of individuality. Wise up.

  5. I dunno, what do you guys think about this Howard Dean guy? I mean, his words really impress me, but I’ve also heard he’s impetuous and has a short fuse. I’d love to back the guy on the strength of his words alone, if he’s as committed to what he speaks of as he seems to be.

Anyone ehse have anymore info on Dean? How’s his reputation?

    Muchas gracias,

    DJM

  6. Howard Dean is brilliant. He does not have a temper, it’s a media scam. He has a strong personality for sure, he knows what he’s talking about and he wants some serious changes in this country. I believe in him. Please e-mail me. I feeling helpless here in Vermont, so I wrote a song called Let’s Take Our County Back. I can send it to you, with my thoughts about the Governor. It’s sickening to see what the media can do to such a great man. Carol
