John Peel’s record collection

John Peel’s record collection could be saved for the British Library: 26,000 LPs, 40,000 singles and 40,000 CDs.

  1. Did you read the part about Peel always carrying around his 140 favorite records? And then for some cruel reason they don’t tell us what they were. Talk about a tease! They have to know that anybody who’s interested in reading an article about a 26000 records owning freak is gonna wanna know what the freak’s favorite records were. Somebody help me.

  2. Doesn’t that just kick your ass. No matter how hard you try, no matter how much money you spend, no matter how many connections you milk, no matter how long you remain captivated by and obsessed with music, you will never come anywhere near ammassing a collection of that quality and magnitude.

  3. You know that every single indie band in the world has been sending him their stuff since the 80s. I wonder if those numbers actually reflect the number of albums/singles that he actually liked and decided to keep in his library. Or if those numbers include his “stack of promo crap” that everyone who gets sent music has piled up in a corner…
