Del – Bubble Pop

MP3: Del The Funky Homosapien – “Bubble Pop” from The 11th Hour, due March 11 on Def Jux. It’s Del’s first solo release since 2000 when he unleashed both Deltron 3030 and Both Sides of the Brain.

If you don’t know Del, he’s the MC who wrote and performed the verses on the 2001 Gorillaz hit, “Clint Eastwood.” He’s laid pretty low since then, touring and overseeing a couple of releases by his Hieroglyphics crew.

I’ve loved Del since his cousin Ice Cube produced his debut, 1991’s I Wish My Cousin George Was Here. That album, for most intents and purposes, closed the doors on sampling Parliament. What more could anybody do with the source material that Del and Cube hadn’t already done? Since then, Del (and pretty much everybody else) has steered clear of P-Funk samples. Can’t wait to hear the new album.
