I remember the first time I ever saw the Jonas Brothers. They were lip-syncing on a float in the Macy’s Christmas Parade. I thought, “Ha, look at those cute little boys pretending to play the guitar.” Actually, I probably said it out loud, and my family probably made fun of me. Since then, I haven’t paid too much attention to them. Saw them on SNL and they were kinda funny.
The dude at Classical Geek Theatre, however, does not find them amusing at all:
The Jonas Brothers are a flagship weapon in the culture wars. They feign conservative social values while romping around the bizarre hyper-sexual Disney meta-verse where young kids dress like Madonna and Mick Jagger and live the rock n’ roll lifestyle, promising to America’s young, malleable minds a life of glamor and cool that can never be obtained, while diverting these child automatons from healthy creative engagement, imaginative play, and intelligent thought.
Worth reading, but his whole point was already made (and far more eloquently and humorously) by the “South Park” clip he embeds in his piece:

These bad kid sitcom/ Friends ripoffs like Hannah Montana are really disturbing. The kids bark out unrealistic dialogue while overacting and making bizarre contorted faces like they are on cocaine. I once compared these shows to 80’s cocaine-fueled porn without the sex which really offended the mother of a Hannah Montana fan. I blame the parents. I think they push the Disney franchise on their kids because they think that’s what they should be watching.
For the real skinny, try”The Sexualization of Childhood’ by Sharna Olfman. Scholarly and deep.
And just for the record, South Park is still funny and relevant. Season 10 was some of the funniest shit I’ve seen in a long time.
theres a disney girl punk band too… caught em on some show with the olympic gymnasts and disney crap and my wife refused to change the channel through the dreck..i was deeply offended
