Who I want to see at Pitchfork Music Festival 2010

I’m breaking this down into two categories. My starters—bands I want to see because I f’n love them. And my bench—a few bands I want to see because I know good music when I hear it. I could’ve broken it up into Saturday and Sunday because—I’ll be honest—I’ve either seen most of Friday’s bands recently or I don’t really care if I ever do. Then again, Michael Showalter is probably going to be funny Friday night on the newly created Comedy Stage.

Also, this will be a brief chronicling. Don’t be lookin’ for some really in-depth expose. Go elsewhere for that, bitches.

My Starting Five:

Big Boi – First, dude’s music is dope. Second, he just looks like he knows how to party. Run don’t walk to buy his new album. It’s one of the few albums good enough to listen straight through. No skips, ya heard me.

Major Lazer – The only part that sucks going in is that I’m currently loving their new mix tape, Lazerproof with La Roux. And La Roux is not going to be there, right? Regardless, Diplo and Switch make up one of my fave artists right now. I might actually dance during this set. (MP3)

LCD Soundsystem – For me, James Murphy is one of the most interesting producers of music and sound going today. The first time I got “Someone Great” and “All My Friends,” I knew I had to make a mix with them back to back smack in the middle, and I had to send it to 30 friends stat. The new album is pretty good especially around the 3min mark of “Dance Yourself Clean” and the anthem-y “All I Want.”

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – The first 25 seconds of “Bellbottoms” is one of the best ringtones that anyone can possibly put on their phone. So as long as they play that song, everything else is gravy. Plus, they do rock, so that’s nice.

Raekwon – The chef. I mean, you just don’t want to f with him. Two years ago he was at the p4k with Ghostface but this time it’s Lex Diamond’s turn to shine—solo style. Plus, I love that he always carries a towel with him. That’s when you know you are true rap mafioso: when you sweat enough to carry a towel and still look pimp.

Off The Bench:

St. Vincent – Loved her Actor album, but I’m curious to see how she comes off on stage in the sun. Does she go all Polyphonic Spree or no? (MP3)

Panda Bear – Always wanted to see a panda bear, live I mean. (MP3)

Sleigh Bells – Just picked up their album and I’m a fan. (MP3)

Delorean – The only thing that might screw this up is that 2.30pm Saturday slot. I’m only human. (MP3)

Pavement – Good band, never been a huge fan, but maybe they’ll make me a believer in person. After all, they are the headliner, right? (MP3)

Now, I know like 8 of the 40 that have read this far are saying, “Damn, that guy is cool.” While the other 32 of you are saying, “How could he not talk about XYZPDQ,” so please enlighten me below in the comments.

Whatever happens, the GLONO posse will be there, or at least Jake will be hiding out in the shade, and AMP will be snapping pics from the pit.
