Sales: Jack Johnson Still Sells

Bill boredCongrats to good old Jack Johnson whose new album, according to Billboard, “breaks an eight-week long streak of No. 1s selling less than 200,000 — where five of those weeks were sub-100,000 frames.” Happy days are here again!

1. Jack Johnson – “To The Sea” – 243,000 (debut; 47% digital)

2. Justin Bieber – “My World 2.0” – 52,000 (up 4%)

3. “Glee: The Music, Volume 3: Showstoppers” – 45,000 (down 29%)

4. Lady Antebellum – “Need You Now” – 41,000 (down 12%)

5. Usher – “Raymond v Raymond” – 35,000 (down 2%)

6. Lady Gaga – “The Fame” – 33,000 (up 6%)

7. Carole King and James Taylor – “Live at the Troubadour” – 25,000 (down 4%)

8. Taio Cruz – “Rokstarr” – 24,000 (debut)

9. Clay Aiken – “Tried & True” – 22,000 (debut)

10. Ke$ha – “Animal” – 20,000 (up 5%)

And remember last week when we wondered if their fancy new video would affect the sales of Broken Bells‘ debut album? Well, it did! (The iTunes discounts didn’t hurt either.) See how much below…

Futher down:

16. Stone Temple Pilots – “Stone Temple Pilots” – 18,000 (down 71%)

38. Broken Bells – “Broken Bells” – 9,000 – (up 29 spots)

55. Sleigh Bells – “Treats” – 7,000 (up 110 spots)

148. Infant Sorrow (ft. Russel Brand) – “Get Him to the Greek” – 4,000 (debut)

Here are a couple of interesting statistics:

• Year to date album sales stand at 130.6 million, down 11% compared to the same total at this point last year (146.6 million).

• Year to date track sales are at 510.6 million, up less than 1% compared to the same total at this point last year (509.6 million).

Album sales keep going down down down, while track sales are now stagnant. That’s gotta be a little scary for those whose livelihood depends on the sales of recorded music…
