Pernice Brothers – Jacqueline Susann

Pernice Brothers - Goodbye Killer

MP3: Pernice Brothers – “Jacqueline Susann” from Goodbye, Killer, due June 15 on Ashmont Records.

Hurray! A new Pernice Brothers album is coming soon. In the time since the last one, Joe Pernice wrote and published a novel, It Feels So Good When I Stop, which I read and thoroughly enjoyed. The “soundtrack” to the novel features Pernice reading short excerpts and covering songs mentioned in the book, my favorite being Sammy Johns‘ “Chevy Van,” which Pernice salvages from 70s radio schmaltzville and magically transforms into glorious indie schmaltz! And that’s all right with me.

This new song rocks hard and has an awesomely snotty stalker attitude: “I want to gum up her plans / Would that I was a book in her hands / Christ, she’s reading Ford Madox Ford and Jacqueline Susann.” There’s even a badass guitar solo. Welcome back, Joe!
