To make up for that previous Barry Manilow post, here’s some real deal punk rock from the guys who invented that shit. This track might sound out of place on their ROIR debut, but so what? It’s 2007, motherfucker. We just want what’s right.
Bad Brains Back – Build a Nation was produced by the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch and “recorded with the classic Bad Brains lineup of enigmatic singer H.R., guitarist Dr. Know, bassist Darryl Jenifer and drummer Earl Hudson.” It’s due late May/early June from Megaforce Records.
Yauch: “I kind of felt like I knew the way they should sound, because I grew up listening to them, going to see them when they first came up to New York from [Washington] D.C. and were playing CBGB and Max’s [Kansas City],” he says. “My feeling was that the ROIR tape [Bad Brains’ self-titled debut record, released on cassette only] really sounded right-a lot of the stuff after felt to me like people were trying to clean them up and make them sound more palatable for radio. So I guess I sat around thinking, ‘Man, if I could just get in there.'”
You can find an MP3 of “Pay To Cum” from their debut album on Epitonic (no deep link).
Wow. This is pretty great. The hilariously named AOL Music Indie Blog is streaming the new Bad Brains Live at CBGB 1982 DVD in its entirety. Not sure how long they keep these things up there, so get it while you can…
You can buy the DVD from Amazon.
