perhaps slanderous, but i've a theory many of howard devoto / magazine lyrics are thinnly disguised smack poems.

Alien Sex Fiend - I Walk the Line
(No relation to the Johnny Cash song of the same name.)

My rent is 65 a day.
I can't move,
You know that's the price you pay.
Is life all in vain?
Starts off in my arm,
Opens up my brain.
I'm already in the gutter,
Next stop is the drain.

I walk the line

I always got the impression that the Riviera song, "Friends in California" was about heroin, based on the longingness of the song and the line "just time enough to get our blood clean". Then my friend Ann told me she always thought the song was about murder. Damn you, willfully cryptic lyrics!

Sticking to a theme...

What about a song about Heroin and Suicide?

In the Night by Bauhaus
