Son Of Heavy Rotation

Postby Mixmaster Shecky » Sat Jul 12, 2003 12:33 pm

What with all the new folks at GloNo, I thought I'd revive this old thread. So how 'bout it, what's getting heavy rotation on your stereo/MP3 players?

Mine are:

Fountains of Wayne - Utopia Parkway
Riviera - Broken Hearted Dreams
White Stripes - Elephant
The Ramones - Rocket To Russia
Violent Femmes - The Blind Leading The Naked
Cat Power - You Are Free

I been on a Louis Armstrong kick a lot of late, but now I'm on a The Band binge.

Aside from some new singles from the iTunes store (Overseer, Fischerspooner, Busta Rhymes), I've still been listening to some longstanding favorites: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Sharpen Your Teeth and By The Way... I guess the newest significant addition is the Minklungs' The Better Button.

I also spend an inordinate amount of time listening to my own band's material... Does that seem odd? Does Rivers Cuomo spend half his time listening to Weezer? I dunno...

Much attention has been given to the following this week:

Destiny's Child - Survivor
The Mighty Wah! - A Word To The Wise Guy
The Mighty Diamonds - Right Time
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Exodus
Adam and the Ants - The Very Best Of

Thanks to the powers that be here at GloNo, I've taken quite nicely to Wilco, and YHF rarely leaves the CD player. On my trusty Nomad, though, I usually listen to Jurassic 5's "Power In Numbers" or anything by DJ Shadow.

I've become obsessed with a band called Minibar, four brits but based in LA.

Nothing earth-shatteringly innovative, but very well crafted guitar pop, similar to Gingersol, or a downbeat Gin Blossoms.

Also loving Kings of Leon, Kathleen Edwards (Failer), Lucinda Williams, and Physical Graffitti, which I just bought.

Looking forward to getting Marshall Crenshaw's new one when it comes out later this month.

Fantastic isn't it? I could rave about it for hours on end. In fact, I often do.

Yea...I couldn't believe I found myself saying it, but yes. It's great. It's super-sexy and has a killer beat.

What more could you ask of a song?
