The Bran Flakes sample Dolly Parton

MP3: The Bran Flakes – “Stumble Out of Bed” from I Have Hands, due February 24 (“pay what you want”) on Illegal Art.

I had high hopes as soon as I realized the Bran Flakes were sampling “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton. I had that 45 as a kid and played it into the ground. (Fact: if you play the “9 to 5” single at 33rpm, Dolly’s voice sounds exactly like John Travolta. At least I thought so at the time; it’s been a while since I’ve tried it.)

But “Stumble Out of Bed” doesn’t go anywhere with this. Too bad, too, because it starts out with a solid base. Other MP3s are even less inspired: “What It’s All About” and “I Have A Friend.”
