Sufjan Debuts in the Top Ten

Lil Wayne - I Am Not a Human BeingI realize we spend most of the time scoffing about how irrelevent the album charts have become, but it’s still cool when a true independent artist makes some headway into the mainstream. Last week, our good old homeboy Sufjan Stevens sold the seventh most copies of any album in America. So congrats. And after a couple weeks as a download only, Lil Wayne finally released his album on CD and shot up 443%. People still like CDs. Billboard 200:

1. Lil Wayne – “I Am Not a Human Being” – 125,000 sold (up 443%)

2. Darius Rucker – “Charleston, SC 1966,” – 101,000 (debut)

3. Big Time Rush – “B.T.R.” – 67,000 (debut)

4. The Band Perry – “The Band Perry” – 53,000 (debut)

5. Eminem – “Recovery” – 50,000 (down 4%)

6. Kenny Chesney – “Hemingway’s Whiskey” – 40,000 (down 39%)

7. Sufjan Stevens – “Age of Adz” – 36,000 (debut)

8. Zac Brown Band – “You Get What You Give” – 34,000 (down 22%)

9. Toby Keith – “Bullets in the Gun” – 30,000 (down 58%)

10. All That Remains – “For We Are Many” – 29,000 (debut)
