Plushgun – Let Me Kiss You Now (And I’ll Fade Away)

Video: Plushgun – “Let Me Kiss You Now (And I’ll Fade Away)”

Saw this video on Subterranean this week and I like it a lot. Directed by Ana Veselic for only $99. A cute girl, a bar fight, and a couple of ukuleles: what more could you want? It’s from their album, Pins & Panzers, out now on Tommy Boy.

See the “making of” after the jump…

Miniature Tigers – Cannibal Queen

Video: Miniature Tigers – Cannibal Queen

Saw this video on Subterranean this weekend and thought for sure that was Will Forte or at least his younger brother. Wikipedia tells me it isn’t. Still a great video and a super catchy song. Video was directed by the Yacht Rock guy and features a cameo from Derek Mears.

Throw Me The Statue – Lolita

MP3: Throw Me The Statue – “Lolita” from Moonbeams, out now on Secretly Canadian.

Saw this video on Subterranean recently. Great, Violent Femmesy vibe right down to the acoustic breakdowns and glockenspiel.

MGMT – Time To Pretend

Video: MGMT – “Time To Pretend”

I guess this is old news, but I just saw this video for the first time on Subterranean last week (higher-resolution QT version). Holy moly, this is as accurate a portrayal of the how it feels to be on drugs as anything I’ve seen or heard since that first track on Kid A, whatever it’s called.

So who is this MGMT? And how come nobody (I trust) tipped me to them until now? The album, Oracular Spectacular, came out on Columbia (Sony-BMG) in January, but their Time to Pretend EP was released in 2005(!) on an indie label.

They recently re-did the video in 3D, and you can watch that and their appearance on Letterman after the jump…

Sea Wolf – You’re a Wolf

MP3: “You’re a Wolf” by Sea Wolf from Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low, out now on Dangerbird. Finally! A “wolf” band I actually like! This band doesn’t sound anything like Modest Mouse or Black Sabbath.

Saw their video on Subterranean, which erroneously listed the band as “Sa Wolf.” MTV apparently needs to hire a copy editor (among other positions…).

Two Great New Videos from the UK

Caught both of these on a recent episode of Subterranean (a show which has been made exponentially better by the firing of its on-air “personality,” Jim Shearer).

First up, here’s the latest offering from the over-hyped (but who cares?) Arctic Monkeys. You don’t need to understand all the lyrics to know they’re still making kick-ass rock and roll.

Arctic Monkeys – Brianstorm

Quite possibly the best use of booty girls in a music video ever.
